Starting Your Own Business on a Shoestring-A Collage of Ideas - By Michele Graham
Statistics show that most people would like to own their own business and be their own boss. Most people also think it takes a lot of money to start a business. This is not necessarily true.
There are many service businesses that can be started with little or no money. We all have a talent or knack for something we enjoy doing. So why should we not be doing what we enjoy and make money at the same time?
I am going to list some ideas of interests and talents you can make into a business:
1. Baby sitting: Requires a nominal fee to be licensed (if required in your state) and an extremely organized person with lots of patience and compassion for children.
2. Personal Shopper: For those of you that are shopaholics, this is perfect. This would require some advertising to get started and transportation. There are numerous people out there who hate to shop and would be willing to pay someone to do this for them.
3. Personal Organizer: For those perfectionists that would be willing to help non-perfectionists organize drawers, closets, pantries, etc. You could charge a consultation fee and take a planner with you dipicting how a person should get their belongings in order. Again, some advertising would help get this off of the ground.
4. Resume Writer: Are you good on the computer? Are you good at writing resumes? Again, this would require some advertising, but basically nothing but your time to produce. You can charge a set up fee and then charge by the word or character. You can also purchase elegant paper by the sheet to produce a professional end product. Samples of fonts and paper would be presented to the potential customer prior to the sale. You can charge your set up fee and collect the balance when the job is complete.
5. Party Planner: Again, you can charge a consult fee, and have some ideas prepared to present at the time of the consult. You could make a list of items that would need to be purchased with an approximate cost of each. You could have several themes prepared or ask your potential customer in advance what theme they are interested in. You would be surprised how many people don't even know where to begin when planning a party.
6. Redecorating Service: Show people how to rearrange what they already have to make their homes more attractive. You can charge an initial consult fee, go to the person's home, take notes on what you will make your recommendations on and then prepare a report with multiple suggestions on how your customer can redecorate with their existing treasures.
These are just a few ideas that you can use or expond on to start a business with little or no money. Search your talents and see what ideas you may come up with to start a business. Whether it's part time or full time, sharing your passions with others and getting paid for it is non-comparable.
